The coronavirus is still around us and while restrictions are gradually being eased around the country, shelter-in-place is the norm or at least staying home remains ideal at this point in time.
While we understand the importance of distancing and sheltering in place, there’s no denying that being at home all the time can be boring. Now, imagine what it’s like for pet dogs who may have gotten used to being outside.
The sudden shift to being indoors all the time must be hard for them. Perhaps even doubly so because they don’t have Netflix or video games to keep them preoccupied.
What they do have though are caring owners. If you want to keep your pet dog engaged and entertained even as you stay home, you can accomplish that.
For this article, we’ll talk about some of the items that will help you better entertain your pet dogs in the midst of shelter-in-place. Check out the recommendations below so that you can get something that will be useful to your pet.
A Wide Variety of Toys
Chances are that you’ve already purchased a few toys for your pet dogs over the years. Maybe you’ve purchased a chew toy or something more interactive that rewards your dog with a treat after they figure out a kind of puzzle.
Ordinarily, you can stick to just a couple of toys that you know your dog will like. That should be enough to keep boredom at bay whenever you’re away from home.
During this pandemic though, a couple of toys may not be enough.
The Spruce Pets recommends offering your pet dog a rotation of toys so that he/she doesn’t get bored too quickly. This may require you to make a few additional purchases, but that’s a small price to pay for your beloved pet.
Treats
Another surefire way to capture your dog’s attention is to use treats. Hide them around your home or yard and let your dog find them.
Alternatively, you can also keep the treats in the interactive toys to keep your dog entertained.
Just remember to dole out the treats in moderation as you don’t want to overfeed your pet.
Making sure that your pet dog remains entertained during shelter-in-place is a challenge, but there are items you can purchase to make that undertaking more manageable. In a next week’s article, we will talk about lockdown-appropriate activities you can try out with your pet so please stay tuned for that!
