Continually social distancing can get lonely and in an effort to combat it, you may have decided to adopt a puppy.
That’s great! Puppies make for lovable companions.
However, you also have to invest time in training your young pup properly if you don’t want them to turn into a troublesome dog later on.
Puppy socialization is especially important at this time and that will be the focus of this article.
Why You Should Socialize Your Puppy
Socializing your puppy basically means getting him/her acclimated to the world. You get them used to other people, other dogs, and just the outside world in general.
If you train your pet properly, he/she will take no issue with traveling. If puppy has been properly socialized, she can participate in Take Your Dog to Work Day (June 26, 2020)
Dogs that are socialized also become more confident and they can get more out of life.
Pet parents who don’t want their dog to turn out kind of isolated should certainly look into socializing.
Conquering the Challenges of Puppy Socialization during the COVID-19
We’ve now established that socializing your puppy is a good idea, but the pandemic is not exactly making that task any easier. After all, exposing your pup to more people can be risky at a time when you’re not completely sure which individuals have the novel coronavirus.
To get around this problem, medical epidemiologist and public health physician Dr. Kelly L. Moore offered a possible solution. Speaking to the American Kennel Club, Dr. Moore says that it would help to identify trusted friends who can be around your puppy.
Dr. Moore also notes that taking your dog outside is helpful to socializing at this time because it’s an environment that’s more conducive to social distancing during COVID-19.
Just be sure that you avoid touching your face while outside and that you wash your hands when you get home.
There’s no doubt that socializing your puppy is tougher at this time, but it can still be done safely and correctly. By remaining cautious and enlisting the help of your close friends, you can prepare your pup for the post-pandemic world.
