Bringing a kitten home can be stressful and challenging. That’s true both for you and your pet.
When placed inside a new environment, a kitten may not be able to feel comfortable right away. That anxiety can linger if you don’t do something about it.
In order to make the move easier on your furry companion, you can import some holdover possessions from previous place. While the temptation to replace the following items may be strong, hold off on doing that for now.
Making your kitten comfortable inside his/her new environment should be the priority and the items listed below will be able to help out a lot.
Pillow
There’s just something comforting about having your old pillow around. Even if it has gotten a bit funky over the years, that familiar scent is just one of the reasons why you’ve grown to love it so much.
Since your kitten may not be able to relax immediately inside your home, you can help him/her by re-introducing a favorite pillow or perhaps one used by his/her parent. That pillow can come in very handy if your young pet has not settled on a new sleeping spot just yet.
Keep the pillow next to you and allow your kitten to get more comfortable.
Food and Water Bowls
Unless your pet bowls are damaged, there’s no reason to throw them out. Cats will probably eat off of any surface if they need to, but there’s no reason to secure new bowls.
In the immediate aftermath of adopting a new kitten, you can save some money by using older bowls.
Litter Box
Cats have different preferences when it comes to their litter box. As noted by the Humane Society, you can encounter cats that will be more than happy to use any kind of litter box while others will steer clear of it if it’s the wrong size or type.
If your older cat has already displayed a fondness for an old litter box and it’s still in good condition, clean it up and see if your new kitten likes it. It’s worth checking that out first before investing in a new box.
Introducing your new kitten to a new home does not necessarily mean that you have to get him/her new everyday items to use as well. Hanging on to a few valuables can do wonders for your cat as he/she grows older.
