6 Ways Dogs Show Their Love

Most dog owners love their dogs just like a member of their family, like a son or a daughter, and chances are that your dog also loves you just as much, if not more. Unlike humans, dogs cannot talk to us and tell us what they are thinking or feeling so we have to rely on their actions and sounds to understand what they are trying to tell to us. But how do you know if your dog is showing you love or affection? What do their actions and sounds mean? Do they mean that your dog loves you?

We have the most common 6 ways dogs show their love to humans:

1.) Tail Wagging

One of the most common ways a dog shows happiness and love is by wagging their tail. When you get home from work and walk in the door, chances are your dog will come running to the door wagging their tail because they are excited to see you. However, tail wagging does not always mean your dog is happy. In fact, if your dog wags his tail in between his legs, it is an indication of fear, insecurity or a warning that he may bite to challenge dominance.

2.) Following You Around

Dogs are very loyal and devoted to their owner and owner family. In fact, they will follow you around everyone you go, if you let them. This is an indication of your dog wanting companionship with you and wanting to be near you. It may get annoying at times, but always keep in mind that this is just one way your dog is showing he loves you.

3.) Sleeps With You or In The Same Room

In addition to following you around, dogs who love their owners will want to sleep near them, either in the same room or in the bed with you if you let them. If your dog sleeps with you or in the same room, he is showing that he cares for you and wants to be near you while you rest.

4.) Licking Your Face

Rather you want them to or not, dogs will lick your face as a sign of affection. Licking releases endorphins in dogs which give the dog a feeling of comfort and pleasure. Of course, we like to think of dog licks as kisses and in a way they are. Dogs may also lick their human companions because of the salty taste of our skin when we sweat.

5.) Urination

When a dog is excited, sometimes they will urinate. While this is not the best way they can show their love for humans especially if they are in the house when they do it, it is a sign of excitement. However, dogs will also urinate if they are scared or being punished which is still a sign of excitement but in a negative way.

6.) Sniffing Your Crotch

One of the main senses for dogs is their sense of smell. As humans, our armpits and our groin area have a sweat gland called apocrine glands. These glands produce scents which is why dogs may sometimes sniff your crotch. They are trying to find out who you are and learn more about you and your scent is one of the ways they do this.
