Playtime and Toys Are Good For Cats

Cats are very low-maintenance pets and they don’t need daily potty walks like dogs; however, cats still need attention, playtime and interaction to stimulate their minds, stop them from getting bored and to give them exercise so that they are happy and healthy.

Here are 4 reasons playtime and toys are good for your cat:

Exercise

Exercise is crucial to having a healthy cat. Cats may sleep a lot, but spending a little time with your cat everyday playing is a great way to keep your cat active and to provide the necessary exercise that she needs. When you are busy or away from home, have a toy that your cat can play with to keep her active and to keep her mind stimulated. When you are home, a favorite toy for humans and cats is a laser pointer. Cats love to chase that little red light around the house which keeps them moving and gives them the exercise that they need. Just be sure to avoid pointing the light directly into your cat’s eyes. When you’re away from home, leave your cat some small toys like a mouse or a ball that your cat can throw or swat around. Find toys with catnip that will attract and stimulate your cat’s senses. You can also find toys that you can add treats to which will challenge your cat to get the treats out through small openings in the toy.

Stress Relief

Cats experience stress and anxiety just like humans do and playtime can help them relieve some of that stress. Buy your cat scratching toys or a scratching post which will help them get out some of their pinned up aggression. This will also stop them from scratching up your coach.

Boredom

Cats are very curious creatures and love to explore. When a cat is left alone in your house with nothing to do and nothing new to explore, they can become bored and depressed. When you are away from home or don’t have time to play, provide items for your cat to explore, such as cardboard boxes, paper shopping bags, packing paper and toys that encourage them to investigate.

Bonding

We love our cats and want to create a long lasting bond with them. One way to do this is to spend some play time with your cat. Buy your cat a plush bird on a wand from your local dollar store and spend a little play time with your cat. This will not only give you and your cat some bonding time, but it will also provide your cat with exercise and entertainment, and it may also help you relieve some of your stress and help you relax.
