Dental Disease: Prevent & Treat In Dogs

Dental disease is not exclusive to humans and, in fact, dogs and other animals get it too. It would be natural for your small or big canine friend to have dental problems as they spend half of their lives chewing on food (bones) and other stuff. But these small dental diseases can actually affect your dog’s general health and damage his internal organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver and digestive system. Once the bacterial infection reaches these parts of his body, then it can be life-threatening for your pet dog. That is why you need to take him to the vet for regular health checkups and practice preventive maintenance on his oral health.

Here are 10 best oral hygiene practices for your dog:

1.) Make Him Drink Ozonated Water

Ozonated water has lots of health benefits and it’s great oral hygiene for dogs. You can purchase an ozone water maker and let your dog drink it to prevent any dental disease from happening.

2.) Keep His Teeth and Gums Healthy with Ozonated Oils

Aside from ozone water (2H2O) you can also buy ozonated oils which are mixed with various herbs that also have dental health benefits plus other health benefits that’s good for your dog. You can use a cotton swab (Q-tip) and rub the oil all over your dog’s teeth to prevent them from tooth decay and other oral infections.

3.) Give Him Probiotic Supplement Every Day

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for you, especially your digestive system. But did you know that probiotics are good for dogs too? If you do a quick Google search, you’ll find a lot of probiotic food supplements that are designed for animal consumption. Add a couple of pills to your dog’s food every day and you’ll see him live a healthy life. And he will have zero dental problems whatsoever!

4.) Feed Him with Bone Broth

The calcium-rich beef bone stew is great for your dog’s dental health as the calcium will help build strong bones and teeth. Bone broth also contains other minerals that are good for your dog’s health. So make him drink the delicious soup and chew on the cattle bones afterwards as leisure time.

5.) Make a DIY Toothpaste Mix from Eggshells

Instead of using regular toothpaste that you buy from the grocery store, make a DIY toothpaste mix using eggshells. Eggshells are rich in calcium. So by brushing your dog’s teeth daily with this home-made toothpaste, it will help strengthen his teeth.

6.) Apply Bee Propolis Tincture on His Gums to help them Heal

Bee propolis is an enzyme unique to bees as they use it to protect their hives from bacteria, viruses and parasites. Veterinarians recommend that you use it on your dog’s teeth to prevent parasites, bacteria and viruses from attacking them.

7.) Use Coconut Oil on His Gums Also

Another good antibacterial fruit extract is coconut oil. Rub it all over your dog’s gums and teeth and it will give him healthy gums and protect against gingivitis and periodontal disease.

8.) Apply Aloe Vera on His Gums for Pain Relief

Natural unadulterated Aloe Vera gel extract helps sooth pain and you can use it to give relief to your dog if he’s suffering from any gum inflammations or pain. If you have an Aloe Vera plant, then just pluck off a leaf and scrape the gel from it and rub it on the infected gum, or you can also buy organic aloe gel and use it on your dog’s gums.

9.) Use Calendula

Calendula is a flower native to southwestern Asia, western Europe, Macaronesia, and the Mediterranean. It is known for its healing properties as well as being an effective antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent. Moreover, it is also good for soothing the mucus membranes and can be used to reduce dental plaque and gingivitis in dogs. Use the calendula herb to treat your dog’s dental disease.

10.) Homeopathic Remedies

The calcarea phosphorica 6x and calcarea fluorica 6x which are calcium-phosporous and calcium-flouride compounds are good homeopathic remedies that can bring back minerals (particularly the enamel of the teeth) to your dog’s teeth. Feed them with these potency tablets daily together with a bowl of purified water (water from a reverse osmosis machine) to protect their teeth from plaque and tartar.
