We all want our dogs to be around us all the time. However, it can be difficult to determine when and where you can take your dog. As much as we want our pets to go to all the places we go, not all places are pet friendly.
So, where should dogs be allowed to go?
There are certain places we expect our dogs to be able to go with us, but other times it makes sense that they are not allowed to follow us. Vetstreet took a poll of 1,500 readers and that helped determine where people think pets should be allowed to go and where they should not.
The majority of their respondents said that they feel that dogs should be allowed:
- Playgrounds
- Public parks
- Hotels
- Beaches
Also, they agreed on a smaller level that dogs should be allowed:
- Public restrooms
- The workplace
- Airports
- Public Transportation
In contrast, there were several places that people felt neutral or negatively about:
- Retail/department stores
- Restaurants
- Grocery stores
- Hospitals/Doctors’ offices
- Nursing homes
- Churches
The readers reported that didn’t feel there was any difference in the size of the dog. They pretty much all agreed that if dogs were authorized in a certain place, then that their size did not matter. Moreover, a slight majority of the respondents said that owners should use common sense when letting their dogs come with them into public spaces. However, about 43% said that a dog should pass an obedience certification test before they are allowed in some public places.
How do you feel about taking your dog out in public? Do you feel they should be allowed everywhere, or should there be only a few places? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
